Travel Insurance May Help If You Are Arrested Overseas

Keep in mind that other countries have different cultures, that means they might watch things differently than the way we do.  So, if you are robbed and start fighting back it is possible that you might be arrested.  You better watch out if you ever hit a citizen of another country.  This may land you in jail.  Keeping in mind that anyone could be robbed at any given time while abroad, be sure to make a note of where the closest U.S. Embassy office is or the consular.

Your travel insurance may not be of much help in cases like this, however a US Embassy or consular may be able to assist you and may even help you contact you friends and family if ever money is needed to bail you out. While there is a light at the end of the tunnel it would still make things very difficult for you when traveling out of the country.

Your travel might be spoiled if you don’t have money to spend even for eating.  This is another occasion in which if you were robbed or your money was stolen you can surely go to the consulars office and they can help you contact the proper people to file the police report and they will tell you how you can get money from family and friends, while helping you make those phone calls.  It still doesn’t hurt to have some sort of cheap travel insurance, such as one way travel insurance.

The consular may not be able to do anything about that country’s law but they can help you take the needed steps to be taken and help you get back home.  The main purpose of the US Embassy is to offer assistance should you ever need it but they definitely won’t just come and bail you out.
